A proper big mug, dressed up like a teacup.
This mug started with my grandfather.
He had a Castel mug from Porcelana Karolina – a big, slightly fancy-looking mug that I remember him using for his tea for as long as I can remember. When Porcelana Karolina closed, I managed to find the mould so I could make him a few myself.
Sadly, he passed away before I had the chance to give them to him for his birthday.
So the mugs stayed with me, and the idea stayed with me too. I decided to keep making them, this time in stoneware, by hand, in my studio in Balbriggan.
At around 500 ml, the Grandad Mug is made for people who like a serious amount of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. It’s big enough to hold what might generously be described as a bucket of tea, but its elegant, teacup-like shape makes it feel rather more special than your average large mug.
Each one is handmade, so small variations in shape, glaze and surface are part of the story.
A big mug with a little bit of history behind it.
Size approx. 500 ml
Food safe & dishwasher safe, but handwashing is always recommended
