Ceramic Scallop Shell Dish – Handmade Stoneware Inspired by the Irish Coast
This piece is a direct imprint of nature, made using a mould taken from a real great scallop shell found on my local Skerries beach. Pressed by hand in speckled stoneware clay and finished with soft glazes, it captures every detail of the original: the ridged surface, the flowing edges, the quiet elegance shaped by the sea.
Each shell is glazed individually, so while the form is constant, no two are the same. Some are matte, others softly glossy – all with a subtle coastal palette that reflects the shifting tones of the tide.
These small ceramic dishes are both decorative and functional. They make beautiful catch-all bowls for jewellery, keys, or small everyday treasures, or can be used for serving dips, sea salt, olives or a few slices of lemon at the table. A simple object with a sculptural feel, it brings a sense of calm, grounded beauty to any space.
Perfect for sea lovers, design-conscious hosts, or anyone drawn to natural textures and handmade details. It’s a quiet celebration of craft, place, and the small rituals of daily life.
